Barbara Larson

Barbara "Barb" Ilene Larson, age 87, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026. She was born on June 18, 1938, in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late Claire Leon and Thelma Martha (Rustenholtz) Patnode.

She married her beloved husband, Helmer, on April 10, 1959, and they shared 63 wonderful years together. Barb retired as a financial analyst for the City of Kalamazoo. Barb was a member of Southern Heights CRC and found joy in traveling, especially her time spent at Klines Resort and as snowbirds with her husband in Largo, Florida. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, music, and playing the piano. Barb was a dedicated volunteer for Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan and Suncoast Hospice in Florida. Barb was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Helmer Larson; and siblings: Lee (Katherine) Patnode, Lillian (James) Hopper, and Larry Patnode.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Robert) Moon; grandchildren: Tammy Horobik, Jeff Klok, Kelsey Klok, Wesley Moon, and Jerri Moon; great-grandchildren, Trevor, Nellie, and Shawn Horobik; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 5:00-7:00pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 622 S Burdick St, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.

A funeral service will take place Thursday, March 26, at 11:00am at the funeral home, with visitation from 10:00-11:00am. Interment will immediately follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park – South.

Contributions in Barb's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Alzheimer's Association, or Suncoast Hospice Foundation (Palm Harbor, FL).
