Barbara Brassfield

Barbara Mae Brassfield, 95, of Portage, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on August 7, 2026, surrounded by family. Born March 12, 1931, Barbara grew up in the Chicago area and spent most of her adult life as an early elementary school teacher. She enjoyed volunteering in her community and at political events, as well as board games, book clubs, and exercise groups. Barbara was married to Basil "Buzz" Brassfield for 70 years until his passing in 2025. She took great pride in being a mother and grandmother and was known for her kindness, love, and intentional presence. She created countless special memories through simple acts of kindness and shared experiences with those she loved. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Buzz; her son, Ross Brassfield; her parents; and two sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Robin Connors; granddaughters Stacey Connors and Kelly Connors; seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many loving family and friends. Barbara leaves a legacy of love that will continue through the generations. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished. Funeral services will be held at Milwood United Methodist Church, 3919 Portage Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49001, on September 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Please share memories with the family at
