Arlene Baber

Baber (Scarlett) , Arlene Rose 11/5/1929 - 12/26/2020 Kalamazoo, MI Died peacefully on December 26, 2020, after a day surrounded by her loving family-Lynette Baber, Mark VanDomelen, and Michael Baber. Arlene was the second of seven children born to Cleon and Thelma Scarlett on November 5, 1929. Arlene was united in marriage to Vaughn Baber on August 11, 1951. Arlene was a gracious and gentle lady. To her, every day was a beautiful, even if it was dreary and rainy. Her marriage with Vaughn was a true love story. Together they raised their family and travelled the country, collecting used and rare books for their family-owned business. Arlene had a passion for art and music, and she loved spending time taking care of her flower gardens. Arlene and Vaughn were longtime members of the Berean Baptist Church and they shared lifelong friendships with Richard VanWerden, Phyllis Lightvoet, Sue Ellen Reynolds, and many friends who have gone before them. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Vaughn, in 2019. She is survived by her children Lynette Baber (Mark VanDomelen) and Michael Baber and by her six siblings-Barbara (Richard) Jorgensen, Walter (Marlene) Scarlett, Daestra Craymer, Pat Hager, Millie (Jim) Bradfield, and Linda (Steve) Kerns. Due to Covid concerns there will be no visitation or services at this time. The family will arrange for a memorial gathering to celebrate Arlene's life at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in her memory to Berean Baptist Church or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
