VERSLUIS, Andrew

Versluis, Andrew James, age 91, loving father and grandfather, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016. James (Jim) Versluis was born October 31, 1924 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Peter and Tena Versluis. He was preceded in death by his sisters and brother, Esther Eisma, Edith Miedema, Francene Van Netten, Elizabeth Smoes, Lois Hartwell, Warren Versluis, and Mary Morren. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Barbara Versluis; his children, Arthur Versluis, Kay Kelly(John), and Mariel Versluis(Ben Mitchell); his grandchildren, Clover and Conor Kelly, and his brothers, Phil (Joyce) Versluis, and Dave (Jan) Versluis; as well as his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gladys Versluis, Mel Smoes, and James Morren; and by many nieces and nephews and other relatives in the extended family, as well as friends and colleagues in the Kentwood Public Schools, where he worked as a teacher and then an administrator in the central office for thirty-seven years. He was a partner in Versluis Orchards, and a longstanding member of Central Reformed Church. An active reader and an independent thinker who enjoyed working and being outdoors, he is remembered with fondness and love. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 17th at 1:30 PM at the Alt & Shawmut Hills Chapel, 2120 Lake Michigan Drive NW. Friends and family will be visiting from 12:30-1:30 PM.
