Alice De Groot

Went to her eternal home Friday morning November 23, 2018. Alice was born March 26, 1925 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a daughter of John and Helen (Steinhaus) Gernaat. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident most of her life and was employed with Phil and Sons Gernaat Greenhouses for many years. Alice was also a Charter Member of Westwood Christian Reformed Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Garrett, Harm, and Jacob Gernaat; and 5 sisters, Helen Ufkes, Grace Fish, Ann Kloosterman, Florence Cramer, and Dena Veldt. On January 31, 1947, she was united in marriage to William E. DeGroot who survives. Also surviving, 4 children, Dale (Connie) DeGroot of Kalamazoo, Rosalyn "Rose" (Dennis) Wolbers of Portage, Paul (Dianne) DeGroot of Belding, MI, and Mary Green of Kalamazoo; 5 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Philip Gernaat and John (Evelyn) Gernaat, Jr. all of Kalamazoo and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held 11 o'clock Wednesday at the Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northampton Rd. Visitation will be 4-7pm Tuesday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St. Graveside services will be held 2 o'clock Wednesday in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Christian Schools Association or Westwood Christian Reformed Church.
