Obituary
Alfred R. Ingold, age 82 of Kalamazoo, died on May 4, 2026. He was born on November 12, 1943, in Kalamazoo, the son of Donald and Fern (Newton) Ingold. Al was a graduate of Otsego High School. He enlisted and served in the U.S. National Guard for 6yrs as a lineman earning his expert rifle achievement. Al spent over 40 years working as a welder/machine set up and repair technician at General Motors.
On October 26, 1968, Al married Janet Earle. He was blessed with two stepchildren, and they added two more sons to the family.
Al enjoyed fishing, hunting, and visiting all the local sporting shops. He loved to talk about cars, tractors, sporting goods, tools and going to auctions. When the children were young, they would take rides as a family with no destination in mind but would often end up at a small restaurant and/or a flea market along the way. He loved to race his 1968 Dodge Dart GTS against anyone anywhere, often beating more reputable cars with ease. His parents owned 175 acres of land that with him, his family and friends built a private camping area there. There were dirt bike trails, an outhouse, a spring fed well and lots of cooking over an open fire that he often loaded with tree trunks so it would burn for many hours. He hunted and walked the property, often enjoying the outdoors.
He loved pets and the time they spent sleeping on his lap or giving them treats when they were begging for food, Missy, Beverly, Sky, Sugar, Marty, Basil, Gigi, Johnny, Kiki, Sunny, Lysander, and Cinnamon.
His family includes his children: Rick O'Dell, Chris (Bill) Dinkins, Dennis (Anne) Ingold, and Scott Ingold; his grandchildren: Ryan Felthoff, Ashley Felthoff, Sarah (Calvin) Altermatt, Kaitlin (Spencer) Mora, Madeline (Keegan Knepper) Ingold, Logan Ingold, Parker Ingold; Great grandkids: Kitt Cronenwett, William Altermatt, Preston Altermatt and Hudson Altermatt; his sisters: Julie LeMahieu, Mary (Byron) Graham and Donna (Rick) Robbins and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Alamo Cove and Centrica Care Navigators for the wonderful care of their father over the last few months.
He will be put to rest at Fort Custer military cemetery with full military honors in a private ceremony with the immediate family. There will be a celebration of life to share with family and friends at a later date.
