Albert Cox

Albert J. Cox, 91, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019. He was born October 29, 1927 in Montgomery, AL to the late James and Alice (McGeehee) Cox. Al was united in marriage to the former Helen Maddex in June of 1978. Al served in the U.S. Navy from June of 1946 until honorably discharged in May of 1948. Al is survived by his wife, Helen Cox; children, Barbara Cox, Frank (Mary) Cox, Dolores (Bob) Brierly, Cheryl (Brian) Osterling, Betty Shammas, Robert (Michele) Vogel, Shari (Jim) Sweet, Teri Cutler and Rick Ashby; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Jason Cox; son-in-law, Roger Cutler; 1 brother and 4 sisters; and his first wife, Ruth (Honeywell) Mitchell. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, August 7th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 145 W. Battle Creek St, Galesburg, MI 49053 and from 11 am 12:00 pm at the church prior to the funeral service. The funeral service will take place Thursday, August 8th at 12:00 pm at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Comstock, 630 Moline St. Interment will take place at 2 pm at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to Galesburg-Augusta Pay to Play program or to the Battle Creek VA Medical Center (Attn: Dementia Ward).
