Agnes (Spoelhoef) Holst

HOLST - Agnes E. Holst (Spoelhof), aged 91, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, October 15, 2010. She was born on July 10, 1919 in Grand Rapids, Michigan the daughter of William J. Spoelhof and Kate Woudstra Spoelhof. Agnes married Merlin Holst on September 14, 1939. They were married 51 wonderful years until Merlin passed away in 1991. They had three children. Merlin and Agnes made their home in Ann Arbor, Plymouth, Grand Rapids and Traverse City, Michigan. Agnes was an optimistic and positive person her entire life. Her gentle spirit and kindness will be remembered by everyone she met. She loved to travel and throughout her life was an avid reader. She was fascinated with words, enjoyed gardening, and was a lifelong birdwatcher. She brought her great sense of humor to every aspect of her life, and will be remembered for her quick smile. Her six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren were her pride and joy. They each cherish a special memory of her presence in their life. Agnes is survived by her children: Marilyn Hondorp (Gary), Jeanne Halliday, Bob Holst (Mary Pat); her six grandchildren: Kim (Aubrey) Connett, Steve (Kate) Hondorp, Mike (Laura) Stanfill, Cynthia (Ricky) Foyt, Ann (Nick) Pregont, Robert Holst; her ten great grandchildren; and her sister, Kathryn Veldheer. Visitation will be held at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, October 19th at 11:00 a.m., with funeral services following at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Mercy Home Care and Hospice, 3075 Clark Road, Suite 200, Ypsilanti, MI 48197.
