Passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Black was born June 9, 1928 in Hillsdale, MI to Audley and Edith Margaret (Barnes) McDowell. She devoted her life to a nursing career, serving with several facilities, retiring from the Allegan County Health Department after 14 years there. On January 22, 1955, in Angola, IN, she married Floyd C. 'Pete' Black and they had celebrated 55 years together. Surviving in addition to her husband are a son and four daughters, Michael (Ruth) Black of Williamston, Margaret "Peggy" (Phil) Perry of Wetumpka, AL, Susan "Becky" (Richard) Pfau of Plainwell, Cynthia "Cindy" (Terry) Trammell of Cordova, TN and Mary (George) Washburn of Otsego; 15 grandchildren and their spouses; eight great grandchildren; four sisters, Madilyn (Max) Hoover and Anna Geraldine Playford, both of Hillsdale, Elizabeth Jeanette (Dick) Lamb of Leslie and Sally Miller of Hillsdale; a sister-in-law, Jenny McDowell of Hillsdale; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond McDowell; and by a great granddaughter, Emma Grace Hirt. Marilyn's family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Friendship Wesleyan Church, Plainwell with Pastor Kevin Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Contributions in memory of Marilyn may be made to Friendship Wesleyan Church or the Alzheimer's Association .
