Life Story / Obituary
A hardworking man of honor and integrity, Richard Wegher lived his life to the fullest each day while holding his loved ones near.
As the 1940s dawned, we Americans were eager to put the dark days of the Great Depression from the 1930s behind us while the strength of WWII continued to escalate. Although we had hoped to remain neutral, these hopes were dashed after the vicious attack on our naval base in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. It was just as this decade was beginning that a young couple from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was delighted to welcome a healthy baby boy into their hearts and home on April 19, 1940. Richard Edward was greeted by his parents, Adolph and Dorothy (Reif) Wegher. He experienced a typical childhood for the youth of his generation. Richard was a student at local schools.
Life was forever changed for Richard when he met Arlene whom he later married. Together they raised five children, Linda, Rick, Scott, Bonnie, and Brian. Although their marriage later ended in divorce, Richard was forever grateful for the children they shared.
Richard lived a busy life. He was a hardworking man who made a career as a forklift driver at AMPCO Metal in Milwaukee. Richard was devoted to his work and was a firm believer in doing what needed to be done in order to pay the bills. His work ethic was an inspiration to those around him.
After retirement, while living in Wauwatosa, he found happiness in long walks, and meeting and talking with people he met at Mayfair Mall. He also enjoyed cooking and sharing his meals with neighbors and family.
Although his life was filled with numerous experiences and things that enriched his life, there was nothing that was more near and dear to the heart of Richard Wegher than the family he viewed as his greatest source of pride and joy. An extraordinary man to know and love, he will be deeply missed and warmly remembered.
Richard Edward Wegher died on January 26, 2014. Richard’s family includes his children, Linda, Rick (Dee), Scott (Ann), Bonnie, and Brian (Janet); grandchildren, Kelly, Vanessa, Craig, Taylor, Aaron, Amanda, Jordan, and Nathan. Great-grandfather of Luis, Ava, and Boston; and other relatives and friends. Family and friends will gather Friday, February 7 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church 5400 W.
