Ethel Gruber

Ethel Gruber , 90, of Kankakee passed away October 23, 2011 at Provena St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee IL. She was born July 8, 1921 to John and Frieda (Engstrom) Nesvig in Chicago IL. Ethel married Fred Gruber June 7, 1947 in Chicago IL. Fred passed away May 1, 2007. She was a housewife and a proud grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of 4. She volunteered her time at the food pantry at St. Lukes Ev. Lutheran Church in Chicago IL, loved playing bunco and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Gruber is survived by 4 children; James and Linnea Gruber of Hillsboro, OR, John and Sandy Gruber of Bourbonnais IL., Janice and Terry Graham of Kankakee IL., and Jeff and Beth Gruber of St. Paul MN. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, 2 brothers; Walter and John, and 4 sisters; Evelyn, Alice, Lillian and Dolly.

A gathering time for friends and family will be Wednesday October 26, 2011 from 10 a.m. to noon at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bradley, IL. with a celebration of Ethel’s life funeral service at noon also at the church. Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at 2 p.m. following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
