David E. Lakie Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on May 24, 2018 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo after a long battle with lung cancer. Dave, together with his beloved wife Jackie, owned and operated Dave’s Towing Service in Plainwell, Michigan for over 35 years until his retirement. His work ethic was something to be recognized to the fullest. He worked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and took minimal time off. He was a simple man who enjoyed coffee, peanut butter sandwiches and family. A few of the highlights of his life were renewing his vows to his wife Jackie on their 25th wedding anniversary and walking his niece Tara down the aisle on her wedding day. For the last few years of his life he enjoyed going to The Old Plank Road Restaurant in Plainwell where he was surrounded by the staff who in his words were “very good to him.” He also enjoyed small trips to the Gun Lake Casino with his friend Henry. Dave will forever be known as “uncle Dave” by not only his nieces and nephews but by those who loved him dearly. Dave is preceded in death by his wife Jackie Lakie, his parents David and Mable Lakie, his sister Donna Cummings and his brother Thomas Nicholson. He is survived by his sister Marge Kingsbury of Mishawaka, Indiana and son David John Babbitt of Otsego, Michigan. Family will be notified of a small graveside memorial tentatively scheduled for the fall.
