Charles Max Flowerday, age 94, of Holland, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016.

Max was born in Ann Arbor, the son of the late Rev. William and Sadie Flowerday. He graduated from Holland High School and General Motors Institute. He served with the United States Navy, World War II in the Philippines. He was employed as an engineer with Thermatron and Donnelly Corporation. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Max was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther Laman Flowerday. He is survived by his wife, Lois Makowski Flowerday. Also surviving are his children: Carl and Ginny Flowerday, Dale and Karen Flowerday, and Irv and Jean Essenburg; step children, Rev John and Sally Ellinger and Steve and Sara Makowski and their families. Max had 5 grandchildren, Craig (Jennifer) Flowerday, Brian (Catherine) Flowerday, David (Julie) Flowerday, Leslie (Christopher) Plank, and Kimberly Essenburg; 10 great grandchildren; and his sister, Rosemary Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday, May 7, at the First United Methodist Church, 57 West 10th Street, with the Rev. J. Lynn Pier-Fitzgerald officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday, May 6, at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial is at Restlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider the First United Methodist Church or Hospice of Holland.
