Art was born April 24, 1916, in Burt, MI, the son of the late William and Meta (Catterfeld) Periard. He married the late Doris F. Price on May 29, 1937, in Saginaw.

For most of his life Art and his wife were in business. In 1945 they moved to Caribou Lake in upper Michigan where they owned and operated a store and resort. In 1956 they purchased Chippewa Recreation in downtown Mt. Pleasant. In 1958 Art and Jim Truax built Chippewa Lanes on Mission Street. Art retired in 1979, leaving his son, Art Jr., to run the business.

Art was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was an avid Tiger fan and enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, hunting, and probably most of all, his association with the bowling community.

His speeches and storytelling at the bowling banquets were a source of enjoyment to him and all that attended. He was one of the first members of the Mt. Pleasant Bowling Hall of Fame.

Art is survived by two sons, Arthur (Mary) Periard of Cape Canaveral, FL and Ron (Carol) Periard of Springfield IL; four grandchildren, Mike (Kelli) Periard of Rochester Hills, Lisa (Jon) Schoen of San Diego, CA, Mark (Barb) Periard of Grand Rapids and Geoffrey Periard of Marietta, GA; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Gase of St. Louis, MO and Doris Kluck of Saginaw; two brothers, Dan (Pat) Periard of Burt and Harold Periard of Frankenmuth; sister-in-law, Margaret Periard of Birch Run; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris in 1998; daughter Pamela Heme in 1989; brother, William Periard; and sister, Marion Periard.
