Glenn Dafoe, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2014, at Prestige Centre in Mt. Pleasant.

A Funeral Mass for Glenn will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior to Mass. His ashes will be interred in Valley Cemetery in Ubly at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Parish, Woodland Hospice or to the wishes of the family. Envelopes are available at Lux Family Life Story Funeral Home.

Glenn was born Feb. 16, 1920, in Bad Axe, son of the late Wilmot and Genevieve (Shall) Dafoe. After graduating from Ubly High School in 1938, he married the late Frances Marie Cook on Nov. 20, 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy from March 1945-April 1946.

He joined the Michigan State Police, graduating in the 22nd class in 1941. He served the Battle Creek, Brighton, Bad Axe, Paw Paw, and Petoskey posts before moving to the operations and communication bureau in East Lansing. He retired in 1974 as captain and commanding officer of the records and identification division. Glenn was head of security and fire marshal of Big Rock Nuclear Plant in Charlevoix from 1974-1984. Glenn and Marie lived in Charlevoix in the summer months and spent their winters in Venice, FL. He enjoyed fishing, boating, dancing and music, telling stories, riding motorcycles, partying, and spending time with his family and friends.

Glenn is survived by two sons, Gary (Cindi) of Roscommon and Kirk (Julie) of Mt. Pleasant; daughter-in-law, Katherine Dafoe of West Bloomfield; 11 grandchildren, Kimm Briones, Scott (Kendra) Dafoe, Kris (John) Cordell, Melissa (John) Recio, Tim (Candy) Dafoe, Julie (Patrick) McCarthy, Todd Dafoe, Tami (Josh) DelCorvo, Terrance Dafoe, Thomas (Kristi) Dafoe, and Megan Leja; 15 great-grandchildren; step-sisters, Esther Kennedy of Hillsdale and Delores Weber of Bay City; sister-in-law, Delores Rambo of Bad Axe; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Elaine) Cook of Troy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie in 2010; son, James in 2010; and sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Steve Kross.

The Dafoe family thanks the Mt. Pleasant State Police Post and the retired MSP for welcoming him so overwhelmingly into their community. The family is also grateful to Lighthouse Prestige Centre, Woodland Hospice and Commission on Aging for all their care and support.
