In everything she did, Cheryl Wyman’s first thought was of helping those around her. She was hardworking and deeply devoted to doing her best in every task before her as well as completely dependable in every way. Although life was not without times of great trial for Cheryl, she was filled with a quiet strength and a courageous humility that were such an inspiration to those around her. Her faith in God never wavered, and it was this same faith that meant more to her than anything on this side of heaven. A loving daughter, devoted sister, and gracious friend, Cheryl will be deeply missed while her memory remains forever near and dear to the hearts of all who were blessed to be within her reach.

It was during this eventful time that a young couple from Redford Township, Michigan, was delighted with the birth of their healthy baby girl on September 16, 1974, in Detroit. Cheryl Ann was one of three girls born to her parents, Paul and Barbara Wojtaszek, and she was raised in the family home alongside her sisters, Catherine and Carole. The Wojtaszek family was a close-knit bunch who remained close throughout her entire life. Throughout her life Cheryl never let a day go by that she didn’t take the time to call all of her family by phone. They were of Polish heritage, which was of great importance to them. Cheryl was part of a large family who practiced several Polish traditions and celebrated together for any and every occasion.

As a young girl Cheryl was active right from the start. She enjoyed things like canoeing, camping, snowmobiling, and just about anything else that allowed her to be outside. Cheryl discovered a connection with nature that she found to be so peaceful. She made friends with ease and could often be found riding her bike with other kids in the neighborhood. She and her sisters grew up in a fantastic neighborhood where they made numerous lifelong friends. As a family they rented log cabins at Songer’s Log Cabin Resort up on Houghton Lake, which was something she looked forward to every summer. The family traveled to St. Petersburg, Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina most of her life. Cheryl attended St. Valentine School in Redford and graduated from Ladywood High School in Livonia. She then went on to earn two associate’s degrees from Schoolcraft College and completed several courses from other universities as well.

Throughout her life Cheryl was known for her impeccable work ethic and her drive to succeed. She was dependable and took great pride in her work, and she was also known for her honesty and moral convictions. Cheryl’s colleagues and friends at work considered her to be the “go to” person who could always be counted on to trouble shoot through problems.

A woman of many interests, Cheryl pursued the things she enjoyed in her leisure time, like her love of shopping. She loved her brother-in-laws, Steve and Keith, like brothers, enjoying many fun times together. She was a devoted fan of the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers, and when she was in the right mood she tolerated the Lions. Cheryl was a movie buff who was also inspired by music and forever looking for songs to keep her motivated and moving. She cherished dinners with friends and sharing a cocktail to celebrate living fully in the moment.

All who knew Cheryl would agree that the list of things that made her so special is extensive. She was always going over and above in helping others whether at work, within her church, or among her family. Cheryl was never one to turn anyone down who was asking for help, and she could always be depended on in ways both great and small. She had a contagious zest for life and could be a real character when it was least expected. A favorite memory among family was the way that Cheryl was quick to pick up a pair of her mother’s sunglasses and say, “Hello Hollywood!”, and even towards the end she never stopped believing in miracles in whatever form they occurred.

Although her life here ended much too soon, Cheryl Wyman made a significant impact in the lives of countless others along her journey. She fully savored every moment she was given. Cheryl was never one to measure success based on the world’s standards, rather, she simply made it her mission to help people in any way she could. She lived a life filled with true beauty and grace. Life will never be the same for Cheryl’s family and friends without her here, but the world will be forever changed because of her love.

Cheryl Ann Wyman died on March 17, 2014. Cheryl’s family includes her mother, Barbara Wojtaszek; sisters, Catherine (Steven) Moses, Carole (Keith) Booms. Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Paul. Visitation will take place Friday 3-9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Rosary at the Neely-Turowski Life Story Funeral Home; 30200 Five Mile (btn Merriman and Middlebelt). Mass will be held on Saturday 11:00 a.m. at St. Valentine Catholic Church 14841 Beech Daly (south of 5 Mile). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Madonna University c/o the Jessica Marie Mitsch Scholarship Fund.
