Through the life of Caroline Hall we are reminded that there is little value found in building material wealth or accumulating possessions, rather, it is in the love we share with those around us that we are richly blessed. She was a woman who was content in all things who was a firm believer in the notion that life is what we make of it. Caroline was blessed to spend more than 50 years alongside the love of her life with whom she witnessed her family tree blossom to include the children and grandchildren who she viewed as her most valuable treasure. The memories she leaves behind will remain forever near and dear to the hearts of her many friends and loved ones.

Life in the early 1940s was defined by WWII. Countless young American men and women were serving overseas while those who remained stateside became all too familiar with rationing on common goods like rubber, paper, coffee, and sugar. People gathered around radios waiting for news from the front lines while holding on to hope for the safe return of their loved ones. It was in 1944 that a young couple from Detroit, Michigan, was pleased to announce the birth of their healthy baby girl on August 25th. Baby Caroline was one of four children in her family and was raised alongside her sisters, Constance and Jackie, and her brother, Ronald. Her family struggled financially, but Caroline learned from a young age that each day is a gift to be cherished since it is a day to spend with the ones we love. Doing things together, making memories along the way are what matter most.

In many ways Caroline experienced an upbringing that was fairly typical for the youth of her generation. Her father, John, worked six days a week as a truck driver in order to provide for his bustling family while her mother, Mildred, worked at Hudson's. On the few days her father had off they spent their Sundays as a family at the family cottage on Round Lake where some of Caroline’s fondest memories were made. She was a student at local school including Henry Ford High School.

Not to be forgotten during her years as a young woman was Caroline’s introduction to the young man with whom she would write a love story that would span more than 50 years. He was a fellow high school student named Philip Hall, and she was smitten with him right from the start. They met in class one fateful day, and they were inseparable from the moment they met. Not long after graduating the high school sweethearts were married on March 10, 1962, in downtown Detroit.

Throughout their married life Caroline and Philip were truly best friends who loved being together. They experienced so many of the best things that life has to offer alongside one another. Traveling was one of their favorite activities, and together they went to places like the Bahamas and Europe in addition to taking several cruises. The cruise they loved most was the one to the United States Virgin Islands.

When Caroline and Philip were ready to start a family, they were soon delighted to find themselves expecting. Together they were blessed with two children, Ronald and Laurie. From the moment their children were born both Caroline and her husband made being the best parents they could their priority. The loved their children without condition and wanted to provide them with everything they could. As a family they loved visiting the cottage on Round Lake that was such an important part of Caroline’s childhood. She felt extremely blessed to carry on this family tradition in her own family for several years. Caroline was an extraordinary homemaker who always made sure their home was clean and she enjoyed cooking authentic Polish cuisine.

Later in life when she had more time for pursing some of her interests, Caroline kept busy. She developed a passion for gardening and butterflies - she even raised butterflies. Caroline had a special place in her heart for dogs, too, including Rocky, Nikki, and Nelly. Nelly was a dog that she rescued from the Michigan Humane Society, which became one of the organizations she contributed to regularly. It was also during her later years that Caroline became a grandmother to the grandchildren she treasured, Julie and Danielle.

Although she will be deeply missed, Caroline Hall will never be forgotten. Caroline’s love for and devotion to her family was unmatched as she focused her time and attention on making sure that all their needs were met. When grandchildren joined the family things only got better, and she lived to shower Julie and Danielle with her love. Caroline and her beloved Philip demonstrated what marriage is truly intended to be as they were partners, friends, and companions for more than 50 years. Her life will continue to inspire all who were blessed to feel her touch.

Caroline Hall, age 68, passed away April 24, 2013. Beloved wife to Philip for 51 beautiful years. Loving mother to Laurie (Karl), and Ronald (Geoff). Devoted grandmother to Julie and Danielle. A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, April 28, from 3-6pm at Turowski Life Story Funeral Home, 45100 Warren Road (btn Sheldon and Canton Center Road), Canton, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made on behalf of Caroline to the Michigan Humane Society.
