Carol Ann Gilcrest, born on April 13, 1931, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, entered into heaven on February 13, 2015, following a brief illness. Carol was a loving and gracious person who carried herself with poise, integrity and dignity. She cherished her family and friends. Carol was articulate in her passions for art, sewing, knitting, tennis and golf. She was humbly competitive and was awarded many golf championships in Michigan and Florida. Carol was kind, considerate, supportive, and elegant in her daily walk of life. She was a member of Christ Memorial Church, The Holland Junior Welfare League, Holland Country Club, and Piper’s Landing Golf Community in Florida. Carol enjoyed and supported family activities including skiing, boating, horse showing, and traveling. She participated in and coordinated many children’s, community, and club events in her lifetime.

Those that entered heaven before her are parents, Henry and Henrietta Helmink, William and Evelyn Gilcrest; siblings Herb Lugers, Edna (Mike) Bender, Jane Wiersma, Henry Lee (Loretta) Helmink and Betty (Warren) Bakker.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Don Robert Gilcrest, her children Don Robert (Debbie) Gilcrest II, Joel (Heidi) Gilcrest, and Sallie (Thomas ) Prins. Grandchildren Elizabeth (Lloyd) Miller, William Prins, Lauren Gilcrest, Alexandra (Matt Barre) Gilcrest, Matthew (Josie) Prins, Emily Gilcrest and Peter Prins. Great grandchildren Emmerson Miller, Harper Barre and Lloyd Miller IV. Siblings Jean Lugers, Cecil (Shirley) Helmink, Betty Nyland, Roger Wiersma, Patricia (John) Gogolin and William (Fran) Gilcrest; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, February 17, 10 – 10:45 am, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am by Reverend Bill Boersma in the chapel at Christ Memorial Church, entrance D. A luncheon will follow in the youth room. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Hospice of Holland are welcome. Arrangements are by Dykstra Funeral Home – Mulder Chapel.
