Robert Bond

Robert Lee Bond, 82, of Limestone passed away January 29, 2015 at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born the son of Ralph and Beulah (Sloan) Bond May 17, 1932 in Mt. Vernon, IL. He married Dawna Lucille Beers May 27, 1955 in Harrisburg, IL. He was the manager of the press room for General Motors for 32 years and retired in 1988. He was a life member of the Kankakee Valley Boat Club and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, boating, hunting and fishing.

Robert is survived by a son: Robert “Bob” (Ronda) Bond of Limestone, daughter: Susan (Brett) Matthews of Limestone, 5 grandchildren: Neal (Abby) Bond, Nicholas Bond, Andrew Bond, Brittany Matthews, Alexi Matthews, brothers: William “Bill” (Carolyn) Bond of Bourbonnais and Gary (Arlene) Bond of Galatia, IL, sisters: June Cockrum of Galatia, IL, Margaret Ann (Cliff) Burgess of Marissa, IL and Brenda Cole of Kentucky. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Gene (Margie) Bond and a brother in law Kenny Cockrum.

A time for family and friends to gather will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home from 4pm-7pm. Visitation and funeral service will also be held Monday in Galatia, IL at the Sloan Funeral Home from 11am until the 1pm funeral service. Burial will follow at the Durham Cemetery.
