Marvin Charles Beukelman—husband, father, grandfather, and friend—died on January 2, 2015, following a battle with cancer.

Marv was born September 8, 1935, the youngest of two boys, to Harold and Egberdena Beukelman (De Young) at Monee Illinois. The family lived in Aurora, Illinois until 1945 and then moved to Lynden, Washington. He appreciated the fact that his parents were Christians, and he professed Christ as his Savior and Lord in his mid-teens. He graduated from Lynden High School, and then Western Washington State University with a teaching degree in biological science. He enjoyed teaching elementary school in Mt. Vernon, Washington, but felt called to ministry. He then graduated from Western Theological Seminary in Holland in 1961 and was ordained as a minister in the Reformed Church in America. He and Ida V. Van Zanten were married in 1960 and together had five children. He and Ida began their ministry in 1961.

Marv served Reformed churches in Melvin and Otley, Iowa; Omaha, Nebraska; Roseland, Minnesota; the Sixth Reformed Church of Holland; and as Associate Pastor of Calvary Reformed Church in Holland. After retirement, he served the Beechwood Reformed Church of Holland for eleven years as Pastor of Congregational Care. He also served as Stated Clerk of Classes in Minnesota and Pella, Iowa. Marv’s death was preceded by that of his daughter Carla Joy.

Marv is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Ida; his children Kenneth and Laurel Beukelman of Holland; Dr. Carl and Mary Beukelman of Pella, Iowa; Marlae and Kent Lee of Holland; and David Beukelman of Pella, Iowa. His grandchildren include: Merideth and Lydia Beukelman; Katrina Ally, and Tucker Lee; Michelle, Adam and his wife Matea, Lauren, Sarah, and Luke Beukelman; Elise, Joseph, Samuel, and Sietje Beukelman; and brother-in-law: Frank and Lois V. Van Zanten of Poughkeepsie, New York, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Pillar Church 57 East 10th Street in Holland. Reverends Jon Brown and Chris De Vos will be officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Dykstra Funeral Home – Mulder Chapel 188 West 32nd Street in Holland.
