Barbara J. Wood

Barbara J. Wood, 72, of Bradley passed away at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital, Sunday, October 26, 2014. She was born September 20, 1942 in Kankakee the daughter of Adelord and Lucille (Golding) Menard. On October 16, 1964 Barbara married Edward W. Wood in Greenville, KY.

Mrs. Wood was a cook for Indian Oaks Academy in Manteno retiring in 2004. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley. Barbara was an excellent cook and loved to bake. She thought of everyone but herself. She was a backup singer for numerous country artists and together with her sister sang with the band “The Thorough Fare” and could sing Patsy Cline songs like no other.

She is survived by her daughters: Carol Wood of Kankakee, Bobby Jo (Adam) Swearingen of Loveland, OH and Kathy Jo (Gregory) Connor of Nova Scotia, Canada; grandchildren Devin Swearingen, Noah Swearingen, Audrey Swearingen and Ava Swearingen as well as a sister Carol (Kenny) Adams of Kankakee.

Preceding her in death are her parents.

A time for family and friends to gather will be held at the Kankakee Chapel of Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home, Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 4pm-7pm with funeral service to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley.
