Carolyn Smith

Carolyn Smith, 85, of Kankakee, passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 at St. Mary’s hospital. She was born April 23, 1929 in Peotone, the daughter of Elizabeth Stolzenbach and George Becker. She married Donald Smith in 1954 and he preceded her in death in 1995.

Carolyn was a member of St. John United Church of Christ. She enjoyed puzzles, gardening, family get-togethers, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters, Betsy (Donald) Papineau of Kankakee, Carol (Keith) Hess of Manteno, IL, Marlene (Mel) Ebsen of Limestone, IL; sons Doug (Kathy) Smith of Irwin, IL, Don Smith of Limestone, IL; sister Marion (Norman) Ruhbeck of Peotone, IL; brother, Marvin (Aletha) Becker of Gilman, IL, George (Loretta Becker of Peotone, IL; sister-in-law, Helen Becker of Wilmington, IL; 15 grand-children and 18 great-grandchildren.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, Vernon, and Louis Becker, Katie Malone, Lorna Waldvogel, and Dorothy Becker.

A gathering for family and friends will take place on Monday, September 15, 2014 at Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home in Kankakee from 4-8 pm. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at St. John’s United Church of Christ (1045 W. River St., Kankakee) at 10 a.m.
