Hazel Berkompas

Hazel Berkompas, age 85, of Holland passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Resthaven Care & Rehabilitation Center.

Hazel was born in Holland to Peter and Jennie Talsma and attended Holland Schools. She was a member of Harlem Reformed Church. Hazel was employed at the Holland Shoe Factory in her early years and also Russ’ Restaurant. Hazel and her husband Cliff enjoyed camping, golfing, deer hunting and winters in Florida. In her later years she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Berkompas in 2001 and a daughter Judy Holtgrave in 2012.

She is survived by her children: Kris and Dave DeKraker of Holland, Jan and Paul Mathews of Holland, Curt and Lonnie Berkompas of Allegan, Marla and Jack Bosch of Grant, Jill Berkompas and Gregg Hill of Holland; 15 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law: Lois and Russ Hulst, Carolyn and Bill Overway, Geneva Berkompas, Byrn Douma, Paul VanHeuvelan; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be 12:00pm, Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Harlem Reformed Church 6854 144th Avenue in Holland.

Reverend John Nyitray will be officiating.

Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 10:00am – 11:45am at the church prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be given to Resthaven Care Center.
