Joel Timmel passed away at his home in Ganges on Sunday the 22nd of June, surrounded by his beloved dogs, family, and friends. He was born in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin on May 9, 1946 to Rudolf and Evelyn Timmel. After graduating from high school he attended and graduated from the University of Hawaii with a doctorate degree in Oriental Philosophy.

In his professional life he was the owned and operated two successful of art galleries; in Naples Florida, and in Saugatuck, Michigan.

He was also very active in community affairs, and a benefactor of many community organizations. He will be well remembered for hosting the Saugatuck Chamber Music Summer Benefit at his gallery, along with his often “behind the scenes” support of other groups.

He is survived by brothers Ned Timmel, Tod Timmel, and sister Elizabeth Timmel Hornbaker, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday the 20th of July, at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, corner of Hoffman and Grand Streets in Saugatuck. In lieu of flowers, he has listed the All Saints’ Endowment Fund as his preference for memorial donations.

Arrangements are by the Dykstra Funeral Home-Saugatuck Chapel.
