Alma JoAnn Lundy was a loving wife, caring mother and listening friend. She was respected for her compassion and patience in her work, and her bubbly, happy-go-lucky personality fostered relationships that endured.

Alma JoAnn was born during the turbulent1960s, marked by protests over the Vietnam War and civil rights marches for equal treatment under the law for all Americans. In Franklin, Indiana, one couple looked at life hopefully as they prepared for the birth of their child. Hubert Hayes and Barbara Ann (Coates) Wooten welcomed their daughter on March 18, 1963 and named her after her grandmother.

Alma JoAnn grew up in Morgantown and enjoyed such childhood delights as long walks in the woods, biking and swimming, swinging from rope vines, and looking for boys with her sister. She met one special boy in 1979 at a springtime youth revival at Faith Evangelical Methodist Church. Rob Lundy was singing and helping with music when he caught JoAnn’s attention. That was the beginning of a friendship that eventually led to marriage.

When her family moved to Franklin, Indiana, JoAnn completed her schooling as a graduate of Franklin Community High School in 1981. That same year, she became Mrs. Lundy on September 5, 1981. Over the years, JoAnn and Rob were blessed with five children, four born to them and one brought into their lives by adoption.

For a number of years, JoAnn was employed by the Mooresville School Corporation, working with special needs children. She was called a saint because of the patience she had that others did not. Children responded to her in such a way that it contributed to their improvement. For example, she helped one child develop skills to walk, moving from a wheel chair to a walker to just a cane.

JoAnn also worked at Cindy’s Hallmark for 12 years and enjoyed interaction with customers. She attended Springhill Christian Center and was actively involved in ministry at Clear View Community Chapel as a singer and musician. Her skills were amazing in that, though she took some lessons, her gift came through answered prayer. JoAnn had asked to God for the ability to play piano and then began playing by ear.

As in her childhood, JoAnn was always eager to be outdoors, whether in the wilderness or camping at such favorite places as Brown County and Gatlinburg. She pampered her cat Critter and doted over her children. She never forgot a birthday or missed out on holiday gatherings. Her thoughtfulness was expressed in gifts given for the usual celebrations, like birthdays and Christmas, but also for Valentine’s Day, Easter and many more.

Sadly, JoAnn’s life became difficult after a major surgery in recent years, and JoAnn struggled to see life as positively as she had before. However, her love for family and friends remained true, and her heart and soul are in the hands of God.

Alma JoAnn Lundy, 49, Mooresville, Indiana, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012. JoAnn will be missed by her loving family and many friends, including her husband, Robert Wayne Lundy, Jr.; children: sons, Bradley Robert Shane Lundy, Nathan Ray Lundy; daughters, Leslie DeAnna Lundy, Allison Marie Viera, and Katrina “Jo” Lundy; mother and step-father: Barbara Ann and Gwinn Wooten; father and step-mother: Hubert and Patricia Hayes; brothers: Richard Dean Hayes and Rob (Lisa) Hayes; sister: Terri Lynn (Jeff) Lazzell.

Friends and family will gather on Sunday, May 6, 2012, 3 to 7 p.m., at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 11 AM, Monday, May 7, 2012, in Springhill Christian Center, 12150 N. Rooker Rd., Mooresville. Memorial contributions may be made to Kidspeace, 3500 DePauw Blvd., Indianapolis, IN 46268. Visit www.carlislebranson.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the online guest registry.
