101, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Friendship Village. Bill was born April 18, 1917 in Kalamazoo to William Schultz and Margaret Luikens. A graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, he attended both Michigan State and Western Michigan University. On August 10, 1940, Bill married Bernice Dugan, who preceded him in death in 1999. He was a sergeant in the United States Army serving during WWII. A lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area, Bill lived for over 30 years at Crescent Beach on Gull Lake in a beautiful, A-Frame home that was specially designed and built on a lot where the previous home he shared with is wife, Bernice, was simply moved to another location. A lover of all things innovative and new, Bill equipped his new home with unique and interesting items. He owned one of the first Arctic Cat snowmobiles, an early microwave oven, and car phone. Bill was a long-time member of the Gull Lake Country Club, Gull Lake Rotary, a Past Master of Kalamazoo Anchor Lodge, a 33rd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite, and belonged to a variety of other Masonic organizations. Bill ran the food service at Sutherland Paper until 1957 when he became the owner of the Tri-County Fence Company until his retirement in 1977. He spent winters in his home in Sun City, Floridaa place he loved very much. He was a life long golfer. Bill was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; a special Nephew Jim Schultz and wife, Sandy; and long-time companion, Nancy Kellogg. He is survived by nieces and nephews Carolyn Dean, Betty Noffke, Joel Gilman, Fred Blossom, William Slattery, Bert Dugan, Tom Dugan; dear Uncle Bill to so many including, Jamie Schultz, Judy Griffin, and Bill Schultz. Bill's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Friendship Village for their exceptional care. Friends will be received 12-1 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2018 at The Otsego United Methodist Church 223 E Allegan Street, Otsego, MI. Funeral service at 1 p.m., Rev. Joe Shaler and Rev. Jamie Schultz officiating. Interment immediately following at Mt. Ever Rest Cemetery, South. Memorials to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
