Wesley Warren Van Marter, age 78, passed away at home in his sleep, Saturday, December 23, 2017. He was born in Racine, June 18, 1939, son of the late Paul Sr.and Alice (Nee:Cramblet) Van Marter.

Wes graduated from Wm. Horlick High School, “Class of 1957”. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduation. On April 15, 1960 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Kathleen S. Russell who passed away September 25, 1998. Wes was employed by J.I. Case Co for 29 years retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, American Legion Post 171, AmVets, and the Moose Lodge. Following Kathy’s passing he moved up to Merrillian where he could enjoy hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed. Wes will forever be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor and kind and generous way he treated everyone whom he ever encountered.

Surviving are his children, Christine (Jim) Coe, Charlene Morrison, Wesley T. (Deanna) Van Marter all of Racine; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Jr. (Sam) VanMarter, brother-in-law, Tom Longo; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews other relatives and many dear friends, as well as his beloved dog, Gunny. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by three sisters, Nane VanMarter, Marge Schmoll and Carol Longo .

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the Maresh-Meredith and Acklam Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may meet with the family 9:00a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Interment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.

Memorials to the VFW Post 1391, American Cancer Society or the Humane Society have been suggested by the family.
