died Monday, June 17, 2019. Mr. Phillips was born on March 9, 1946 in Findlay, Ohio to Richard S. and Violet I. (Rice) Phillips. He had been employed by the Battle Creek Lakeview Public Schools as a high school teacher. He retired in 2002. On August 9, 1969, he married the former Mary E. Crates in Arlington, Ohio. He enjoyed all types of hunting especially deer and squirrel. For over fifteen years, Tom and his friends traveled to hunt Prairie Dogs in the Dakota's. Tom also delighted in caring for his well-manicured lawn and flower beds. He owned and operated the Phillips Tree Farm, producing Christmas Trees for over twenty years. He loved teaching and challenging his students to learn something new. He also enjoyed the stimulating conversations provided by his friends at his morning coffee gatherings in Galesburg. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his sister, Nancy Hall of Saginaw; nieces, Jenny (Aaron) Gebauer and Karen (Greg) Stiffler; nephew, Richard Schofield; and 8 grand nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Thursday at the Battle Creek Chapel of Kempf Family Funeral Home from 4 PM to 7 PM. A Celebration service will be held 11 AM Saturday at the Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, 205 W. Sandusky St, Findley, OH. Memorials are to the American Heart Association, Galesburg Charleston Twp. Fire Department, the Hancock Parks Foundation, Findley, OH.
