Thomas F. Fillar

Passed away on Friday afternoon, May 17, 2019 in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 26, 1941 a son of Leo and Stella (Stoka) Fillar. Thomas graduated from the University of Detroit's Dental School and entered the US Army, serving from 1966 to 1968 as a dental officer. He returned to Kalamazoo to start his private practice in late 1968 and never retired. Thomas was a member of Agape Christian Church where he served as a Deacon. He enjoyed nature, spending time outdoors, playing golf and family vacations. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Geoffrey Fillar. On June 4, 1977 Thomas married the former June Brace, who survives. Also surviving are eight children, Kennedy (Valerie) Fillar, Patrick (Kristen) Fillar, David (Sarah) Fillar, Brendan Fillar, Christyn (Zack) Florian, Abraham (Jessie) Fillar, Josiah Fillar, and Audra (Seth Drake) Fillar; daughter-in-law, Andrea Fillar; nineteen grandchildren; sister, Carol (Jim) Berch; brother, Larry Fillar; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 4-8pm Tuesday, May 21st at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. Funeral services will be held 11am Wednesday, May 22nd at Agape Christian Church, 609 Cherokee St, with Pastor Dave Sykes, officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Private graveside services will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Alternatives of Kalamazoo.
