Tom Cashen 34 Kalamazoo, MI Saturday Brain Injury Surrounded by his loving familyTom Cashen passed on from this life following a courageous 3 month battle to recover from the effects of an anoxic brain injury. Tom was born June 3 1982 at Bronson hospital and was welcomed home by his older brother Aaron and later welcomed a younger sister Molly. Growing up Tom played youth and high school soccer. A 2001 Graduate of Portage Northern High School Tom was an honor student, president of the student senate and garnered honors in both Forensics and Debate. In 2006 Tom connected with the true love of his life when is daughter Skyla was born. Seldom have a father and daughter shared a connection such as theirs. Tom is survived by his daughter Skyla brother Aaron sister Molly and his parents Susan Hoffman and Tim Cashen (Suzanne). He was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Don and Jean Hoffman, Russell and Alvina Cashen and cousins Christina Cashen and Carrie Marland. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 24th at 12:00 followed by a !:00 service at Langeland's Westside Chapel on 9th Street in Kalamazoo. Tom was "the straw that stirred the drink" as he brought a creative energy and a knack for bringing people together to find common ground. Tom will long be remembered for his passion which in the months preceding his death were directed toward helping others at the Portage ODAT society.
