Erickson, Steven T. Portage Passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Steven was born October 22, 1983 in Kalamazoo, the son of Ralph and Cheryl (Herbison) Erickson. Attended Comstock Gull Meadow, then transferred to Galesburg Augusta Schools. Steven was a member of Boy Scout Troop 265 of Galesburg. He was an active band member where he played the tuba and in his senior year was co-drum major of the marching band. He was also active in the drama program, where he had the lead in Romeo and Juliet. He graduated from Galesburg Augusta in 2002 Upon graduation, he attended Ferris State University and received a B.S. in Secondary Education. While at Ferris he met Lena Jager where both were active in the drama department and were in several productions together. Steven also spent time running programs, including LARP, at Sherman Lake YMCA camp for 15 years, where he was loving known as "Grandpa Steve." He was a substitute teacher for KRESA for several years and then became the Alternative Education Director at Galesburg before accepting a teaching position at Comstock North East Middle school. Steven enjoyed spending time with family, especially his daughter Kahlan, reading and playing board games and role -playing games. He also enjoyed taking photographs and learning to operate a drone. On May 30, 2008 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, Lena (Jager) who survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Kahlan Erickson; parents, Ralph (Cheryl) Erickson; 3 brothers, his twin, Jason Erickson, Christopher Erickson, and Matthew Erickson. A memorial service to celebrate Steven's life will be held Saturday, August 4 at the Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center, 6225 North 39th Street in Augusta from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. Private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a college fund for his daughter, Kahlan or a scholarship fund for the Sherman Lake Camp.
