Stephen Frederick DeBoer, age 68, passed away on Monday morning, March 19, 2018. He was born on June 7, 1949 in Kalamazoo, MI the son of Frederick and Jane (Adams) DeBoer and had been a lifelong area resident. Steve graduated from Otsego High School in 1967 and later from Michigan State University where he earned a master's degree in BioSystems Engineering. On June 13, 1970, he married the former Arlene C. Knight, who preceded him in death in 2004. After being married, he enlisted in the USMC as a reservist and began working for the Kellogg Company where he enjoyed a successful career that spanned over 30 years before retiring as Vice President of Food Technology. Stephen was blessed in marriage once again with the former Pamela S. Block (Schuiteboer) on February 11, 2006, who survives. He enjoyed traveling, golf, playing cards, and restoring antique tractors which he proudly drove in the Annual 4th of July parade in Schoolcraft. He was actively involved in Church, first at Twin Lakes Reformed Church and then at North Park Reformed Church. While there is much to be said about his successes, achievements and interests, his greatest passions were his faith, his family and his friends. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He trusted God even when the path was difficult. He was loved greatly and will be missed greatly. Preceding him in death were his parents; mother-in-law, Merle Landes Knight; sister-in-law Amy Winter; and a brother-in-law, Terry Block. Also surviving are four children Chris (Kara) DeBoer of Kalamazoo, Curt (Amy) DeBoer of Kalamazoo, Kate (Neil) Hanser of Clinton Township and Collin (Megan) Schuiteboer of Kalamazoo; nine grandchildren; in-laws, Harold & Patricia Block; father-in-law, Maynard Knight, Sr.; sister, Barbara Morris of Portage; brothers- and sisters-in law, Andy (Pam) Knight of Parchment, Marlita (William) Walker of Otsego, Maynard (Donna) Knight, Jr. of Portage, Andy (Trish) Winter of Otsego, Judith (David) Johnson of Gobles and Jack (Paula) Block of Valparaiso, IN; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2-4PM and 6-8PM on Thursday, March 22nd at North Park Reformed Church, 1316 Barney Road, where services will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, March 23rd. Pastor Paul Fazio and Pastor William Walker will officiate. A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Private graveside services will be held in Alamo Center Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to North Park Reformed Church or American Diabetes Association.
