Malnight, Stephanie Peery 9/17/1954 - 1/10/2019 Lafayette, Indiana Stephanie (Peery) Malnight, 64, of Lafayette died Thursday, January 10, 2019, at IU Health Arnett with her family by her side. Stephanie was born September 17, 1954 in Pontiac, MI to Patricia A. (Harradine) Peery and the late Kent E. Peery. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and later a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology from Georgia Southern University. She pursued a career in public health and taught aerobics. While at the University of Michigan, she met and fell in love with Robert Thomas Malnight. They were married on July 10, 1978 in Wilmington, DE. Stephanie was a Public Health Nurse and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She had a lifelong love of music. As a child she sang and danced with her sister at county fairs, and in college she was part of several folk-rock bands. She has sung in church choirs since childhood. She played guitar and a mean tambourine. She also enjoyed skiing and camping. She hiked a volcano once. She turned napping into an art form. She read widely and was deeply empathetic. Above all, she cherished time spent with family, especially her grandson, William. Despite being less than 2 years old, William often asked to call his grandma on the phone because even he recognized how fun it was to talk with her. Along with her husband, Robert, and her mother, Patricia, she is survived by her son, Joshua (Laina) Malnight of Kalamazoo, MI; grandson, William; sisters, Elizabeth A. (Jeff) Peery of Waterford, MI; Catherine M. Kegler of Winter Haven, FL; 3 sisters-in-law, Patricia M. (Keith) Andrews of Galax, VA; Margaret J. Malnight of Kalamazoo, MI; Mary (Paul) Honeysett of Kalamazoo, MI; 2 brothers-in -law, Thomas W. Malnight of Lausanne, Switzerland; Richard (Laura) J. Malnight of Wayland, MA; mother-in-law, Margaret A. Malnight of Kalamazoo, MI; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a cross-country network of friends, lifelong and new. Her ability to make connections where ever she went was one of her defining features. She was preceded in death by her father, Kent; father-in-law, Robert J. Malnight; sister, Kathleen K. Peery; and brother-in-law, William E. Malnight. In her professional and personal lives, Stephanie sought to help others who, like herself, lived with Type 1 Diabetes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Stephanie's name may be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at www.jdrf.org. Envelopes will be available at the church. Memorial Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Monday, January 14, 2018 at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, 400 Twyckenham Blvd, Lafayette.
