Shirley Scherer

Mrs. Shirley Jean Scherer, aged 61 of Victory Township, passed away on Sunday morning, October 10, 2004 surrounded by her family. Shirley was born on October 15, 1942 in Ludington to Leo and Irene (Young) Whitaker. She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant daughter Brenda Louise. Shirley previously worked for Letsinger’s Tree Farm, and Mason County Fruit Packers, but received her most joy working to make her house a home for her children and grandchildren. She loved to tend her flower garden and was very proud of her strawberry patch. Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her children Terry (Donna) Scherer of Ludington, Sherri (Michael) Herlein of Hart, Timothy Scherer of Cape Coral, FL, William Scherer III of Ludington, and Sally (Shane) Odean of Portage, 10 grandchildren, her brothers and sisters Esther Malstrom, Dolores (Joseph) Leifker, Albert Whitaker, Arthur Whitaker, and Ione Myers all of Ludington, and Leo (Rita Strelow) Whitaker Jr. of Grand Rapids, her aunt and uncle Marie and Donald Bosma of North Muskegon, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held for Shirley at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 14 at the Ludington Seventh Day Adventist Church, with her pastor, the Rev. Doug Carlson officiating. Burial will take place at Bachelor Cemetery. Friends may meet with her family for a time of visitation on Thursday morning from 9:30 AM until time of services at the church.
