Shirley Barclay

Barclay, Shirley J. of Portage Shirley Jeanette Barclay, age 94, passed away November 14, 2017. Shirley was born February 17, 1923 in Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of Frederick and Gyneth (Wallace) Huhn. On July 20, 1945, she was united in marriage to Robert A. Barclay. She was a longtime resident of Portage area and for over 20 years, she was employed as a secretary with the Portage Public Schools. Shirley was a member of the Pathfinder Church (First UMC of Portage). She was preceded in death by her husband Robert on September 15, 2009; also by her parents and by five siblings. Shirley loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, sewing, painting, cake decorating and crafting. Surviving are her children, Stephen (Beverly) Barclay of Vero Beach, FL, David Barclay of Portage, Wendy (Sam) Thigpen of Charlotte, NC and Gail (Phillip) Friedrick of Sparta, MI; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchild and 1 great-grandchild due next year; 1 great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews. Private family services and burial has taken place in Portage South Cemetery. Memorials in Shirley's memory may be directed to Pathfinder Church or a veteran's charity of your choice.
