Life Story / Obituary

Print

Sandra Anne Crawford (Rode) found eternal peace with her lord on June 6, 2015.

Sandra was born Dec. 4, 1942. Her family moved from Detroit in 1957 to Kewadin, where she became a lifelong resident of the area. Sandra graduated from Elk Rapids High School in 1961. She attended Kewadin United Methodist Church and was active in choir and Sunday school. In 1963, Sandra married, Richard Crawford and they had four children. In addition to being a homemaker, she supplemented her income as a sales lady for Avon, Tupperware and Shaklee products. In later years she worked in health care as a caregiver and nurse aide.

Sandra loved music in all forms. She loved singing and dancing — music was always a big part of her life. Sandy enjoyed old movies as well as westerns and comedies. Figure skating, fishing and knitting were also some of her favorite things, as well as spending time with family and grandchildren for a night of karaoke. Sandy brought a light happy feeling to any get together, you could guarantee laughter and good memories. She will be sadly missed.

She is survived by her four children, Hanley Crawford of Traverse City, Craig Crawford of Kewadin, Lorraine (Crawford) Morely and Daniel Crawford of Grawn; sister, Ruth Sternaman of East Lansing; more than two dozen grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Irene Hunter; first husband, Richard Crawford; and nephew, John Sternaman.

A memorial will take place at 4 p.m., Aug. 22, at Elk Rapids Bible Church, where the family will greet friends starting at 3 p.m. with a potluck dinner to follow. A private burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to organizations of your own choosing which support victims and survivors of domestic violence.
