Samuel (Sam) Befus, a proud native of Sheboygan, WI, and more recently of Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids, MI, is now using his remarkable bass voice to sing praises in Heaven, since his Savior called him home on April 14, 2018 at age 93. He is remembered with love by his surviving wife of 66 years, Patricia (Pat); sisters, Kathy (Harding) Duerksen and Barb (Ron) Freshour; his 5 children and their spouses: Dan (Jan), Jack (Nancy), Bob (Sandy), Barb (Iain) Duguid and Scott (Colleen). His 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren will always remember his tireless play, his fun and games and his spiritual care, prayers and blessings. Sam served in the USAF in the South Pacific during WWII and later completed his education at Wheaton College in IL, before singing and traveling with the Word of Life Quartet for evangelistic rallies. Sam married Pat Marquardt in 1951 and together they served as missionaries in Japan, Korea, East and West Africa, and Latin America with the Pocket Testament League. After 20 years on the mission field, Sam accepted a call to ministry in the US and served the Lord for 35 years as a pastor. Sam's joyful, kind and loving spirit has brightened so many lives, and the sound of him singing the song, "Singing I go along life's road, praising the Lord", has left tapping feet and grateful hearts all around the world. A celebration of Sam's life will be held at Holland Homes, Raybrook Manor Chapel at 4:00 PM on Saturday, April 21, with a visitation one hour prior to the memorial service. Please join the families afterwards for a light meal and fellowship.
