Anne passed peacefully, March 17, in her home at Fair Lake with George, her husband of almost 70 years, and family present. She was 89. She was born in Battle Creek, August 16, 1928, to Clayton and Dorothy (Ashley) Rice. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1946 and worked at Lakeland Dairy while in school, then Lakeview State Bank, Grants in Columbia Plaza, and B & R Letter Shop for 20 years for her close friends and employers, Ralph and Beverly Bendict. A lifelong member of the Battle Creek Tabernacle, she had served as a Deaconess: lifelong member of Goguac Yacht Club: Battle Creek Bicycle Club, and 51 year member of U.S Power Squadron in Kalamazoo. Through the years Ruth Anne was a very avid gardener, taking flowers from her garden to area hospitals: amateur photographer and developing her own film: a licensed ham radio operator: enjoyed camping in Canada at Lake Superior Provincial Park with her husband and kids: long walks and long distance bicycling, which included riding from Lansing to St. Ignace and from Battle Creek to Prince Edwards Island.: 5 and 10K runs, including the Great Aloha Run in Hawaii, Australia, China, Great Britain and Ireland, Greece, and mainland U.S.A. Her greatest joy was gathering with her beloved family and friends. There was always a seat at her table for one more friend: no such thing as a stranger in her home. She and her husband also hosted 2 exchange students from China and Brazil. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Marjorie Weitting, daughter, Linda Tyler, and grandson, Alex Tyler. Survived by her husband George Tyler Jr., son George (Michon) Tyler III of Battle Creek, daughter Sarah (James) Veltman of Portage, MI, son Andrew (Renee) Tyler of Battle Creek, brother Richard C. Rice of Battle Creek, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Battle Creek Academy in honor of Ruth Anne Tyler. A memorial service will be held at the Battle Creek Tabernacle, 264 W Michigan Ave, Battle Creek, MI 49037, on Friday, March 23, 2018, at 2:00 pm in the Seminar Room.
