Ruth Jones

Ruth Jones, age 92, of Kalamazoo, MI went home to be with the Lord on July 31, 2017 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was born on May 6, 1925 in Tunica, Mississippi to Earl Davis and Beatrice (Mathews) Davis. She was the third of eleven children born to this union. She accepted Christ at an early age and has always trusted the Lord to guide her steps. In 1941, she united in marriage to Allen L. Jones. In April of 1943, the couple and their six month old daughter, Lillie moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan. They were later blessed with five more children, Catherine, Jessie, Joe, Nathaniel and Bobby. Ruth was employed at the Kalamazoo Country Club for 15 years She also worked at Borgess Medical Center in housekeeping, retiring in 1983 after 22 years of service. Ruth was a long time faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Kalamazoo, MI under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Addis Moore. She served on the Usher Board, Missionary Ministry and counted the attendance every Sunday for many years. Some of Ruth's favorite past-times she enjoyed were traveling, sewing, gardening and fishing. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She looked forward to yearly family gatherings and reunions and she never missed one! Ruth was known for her quiet but gentle demeanor. She loved her church, her Pastor and her church family, especially Deacon Ron Boyd, who she viewed as another "son". She will be truly missed by all of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, neighbors and her Mt. Zion Baptist Church family. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Beatrice Davis; 3 brothers, Richard Davis, Levi Davis and Archie Davis; one sister, Clara Clemmons; one daughter, Jessie Pitts and one son, Nathaniel Jones. Ruth is survived by her children, Catherine Jones, Bobby (Melois) Jones, Lillie (John) Nelms all of Kalamazoo, MI and Joe (Yvonne) Jones of Portage, MI; grandchildren, Terry Lee, Cynthia Lee, Danielle Jn Baptiste and John Nelms II all of Kalamazoo, MI; Valerie Kartwe of Atlanta, GA, Amanda Carter of Virginia; and Geno Ware of Nashville, TN; 9 great grandchildren, Nya Nelms, Nadia Nelms, Natalie Nelms, Johns Nelms III, Richelle Jn Baptiste, Yvlie Jn Baptiste; Tatianna Carter, Jacob Karwte and Joshua Karwte; 4 sisters, Elizabeth Davis and Daisy Johnson of Chicago, IL; Charlene (Johnny) Simmons of Pontiac, MI and Rose Harris of Champaign, IL; 2 brothers, B.H. Davis of Chicago, IL and Jack Davis of Champaign, IL. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A Public Viewing will be held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 at the: HARPER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Douglas Avenue, 342-1000. A Visitation will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, August 12, 2017, with 1:00 p.m. Funeral Service following at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 120 Roberson Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan with Pastor Dr. Addis Moore, officiating. Interment Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo.
