Obituary
Donald D. Sexton passed away October 30, 2025, at age 91. Ron was born June 27, 1934, in Kalamazoo to Donald and Ada (Koetz) Sexton who preceded him in death. He had 3 sisters: Donna (Roger) Wedig, Mary (Floyd) Bowlby, and Norma (Chuck) Chilcutt. Only Chuck survives. Ron graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1952 where he was on the swim team. In 1954, he was drafted and served in the Army for 2 years. After the service he attended Western Michigan University on the GI Bill and worked as a butcher for A&P. In 1956, he married Judith (Judy) Rozeboom. They had 3 children: Bruce (Sara) Sexton, David (Sandy) Sexton and Sue (Gordon) Fraaza. Judy passed away in 1971. Ron was also married to Judy DeVries-Mundy and Claudia VanBuskirk-Jansen. Both have passed away as has his companion, Betty Hetrick. He is survived by his dear friend Lesley Weatherly. Ron and Judy moved to Parchment, MI in 1963 where he began his career with State Farm. He worked as an agent for 40 years and earned the degree of Certified Life Underwriter. Ron was an active supporter of Parchment and Parchment public schools. In 2014 he was elected to the Parchment Hall of Fame. He also was an active member of the Parchment Lions Club and the Otsego Elks Club and a long-time member of Haven Church. Ron sponsored community basketball and softball teams for many years. His teams earned State and National recognition. He enjoyed playing cards, reading the daily newspaper and hunting. He spent many hours at his cabin in Wellston where the annual deer camp was his favorite time of year. His Hunting buddy, Chuck Ybema, recently passed away also. Ron and his friend Dr. Arnie VanDyk owned the Unwinder restaurant in Plainwell for many years. Ron wintered in Palm Harbor, FL for over 20 years. There he served on the park board of directors for several years. Ron is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Memorial gifts can be sent to Centrica Care Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 2:00-5:00 PM, at the Fraternal Order of the Police, 1721 Riverview Dr, Kalamazoo, MI 49004.
