Ronald Jeffery Gilkey passed away peacefully at his home in Vicksburg Michigan on October 24th, 2017. Ron was born on December 19th, 1952 in Flint Michigan.

Ron graduated from Portage Northern High School in1972. While attending, he discovered his passion for tennis. He proved to be an exceptional and dedicated player that strived to develop his skills on the court. His determination and technical skills earned his tennis team top honors in Big Six Conference. Ultimately awarding him the respectable title of 12th in the State of Michigan. After high school Ron attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College where he was fortunate to continue to play tennis, and coach. He committed over 10 years of his life to sharing his passion for tennis through coaching. Additionally, he was recognized for his outstanding sportsmanship. Tennis remained an active part of Ron’s life until he became a family man.

As time passed he became the proud Father to Joshua and Audrey. Ron was devoted to his children, and exemplified what it meant to love your children unconditionally. Anyone that knew Ron, knew how much he cherished his family! He took great pride in being a Grandpa. He was an honest, tell you how it was kind of guy, but always aware of loved one’s feelings.

Ron was an exceptionally detailed person. Throughout the years he closely followed the stock market. Taking extensive notes, studying, and making strategic investments. Rock n’ Roll music was his favorite rhythm. The center piece of his living room is a full set of drums. This allowed him to be creative, keep his mind sharp, reduce stress, and of course get in a good workout.

Ron is survived by his beloved children Joshua (Darcy) Gilkey of Mendon MI, Audrey (Cody) Smith of East Tawas; Grandchildren Mason Gilkey, Allie Gilkey, and Gracie Lou Smith (due any day); Brother Dr. Roderick Gilkey (Susan Baker) of Atlanta GA, and nieces Nicole Gilkey & Andrea Gilkey, and a great-niece Cici. He was preceded in death by his parents Wallace and Thelma Gilkey of Hendersonville NC.

A date for a private memorial is to be determined. Please feel free to contact the family for details. Condolence can be directed to Rupert Durham Marshall & Gren at 409 S Main St, Vicksburg, MI 49097. Please visit his webpage at www.lifestorynet.com where you can sign his guestbook and share a memory.
