Rollin Ernest "Ron" McCurley, age 86, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence on Friday, March 31, 2017. Ron was born in Quincy, Michigan on November 3, 1930; the son of the late Charles and Beatrice (Tooman) McCurley. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1947 and enlisted in the US Navy in 1948. He served his country honorably as a radarman aboard the USS Newport News and the USS Missouri. Ron was employed by the Upjohn Company for 36 years and received the William E. Upjohn Award for recognition of special accomplishment in 1989. On November 22, 1953 he was united in marriage to the former Ruthellen H. Smith who survives. Ron is also survived by his children, Lynette (James Barlow) and David (Debbie) McCurley; grandchildren, Valerie and Andrew (Lindsay Jaime) Cochran, Cristin (Scott) Abernathy and Meghan (Mark Everson) McCurley; brother, Leland McCurley; sister in-law, Donna McCurley and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a sister, Twyla Withington and brothers, Richard and Duane McCurley. A memorial service will be held at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Kevin Anderson and Nan Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. A time of visitation will take place at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Kalamazoo Community of Christ Church or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, c/o Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home.
