Rolf Schliess

Traverse City - Rolf Schliess, 61, of Traverse City, passed away unexpectedly at Munson Medical Center on January 29, 2016. Rolf was born on November 11, 1954, in Melborne, Florida, to the late Hermann and Nancy Lee ( Fisher) Schliess.

He married Kathy Pankey on August 31, 1986, while sailing on the “Continental One” in San Diego Bay. They raised two wonderful sons here in Traverse City.

Rolf loved living on Spider Lake for the last 26 years as co-owner of Harold’s Resort with his wife. He enjoyed traveling with his family to Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Mexico, and most of all... Maui. Rolf was an avid Boy Scout, Cub Master of Pack 115, and Boy Scout Leader in Troop 229. He liked to tell a good joke, but never liked having to explain his jokes.

Rolf is survived by his wife Kathy, sons Dieter and Hunter Schliess, both of Traverse City, grandsons Xander and Kellen Schliess of Traverse City, sister Rebecca ( Mel ) McVeigh of Grapevine, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Stephanie LaStella and Heidi Schliess.
