Roland Henry Sayer, 93 of Interlochen formerly of Cadillac, died on October 17, 2016.

Roland was born on August 1, 1923 in Cadillac, the son of Edward and Cecil (Bleacher) Sayer.

He was a Corporal during WW II, serving in the Army. He received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 bronze stars.

Roland retired from Kysor in Cadillac after 30 years of service. He was a master carpenter and furniture maker. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts in his younger years. He was a member of the Wexaukee Amateur Radio Club. Roland was a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed working with wood, making furniture, fishing, hunting and reading.

Roland is survived by his loving wife, Donna Sayer of Interlochen; they were married on February 11, 1972; son, Brian Sayer of Stafford, Virginia; daughter, Wendy (Ken) Schuster of Lawrenceville, Georgia, daughter, Molly (Scott) Van Oordt of Traverse City; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Cecil Sayer; brother, Kenneth Sayer and a son, Randy Sayer.

A Military Honors Service conducted by the US Army and Cherryland VFW will be held 11 am, Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Green Lake Twp. Please visit www.lifestorytc.com to sign the guest book, share a message and more. The family chose Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City.
