Roger Roof

Dr. Roger Samuel Roof died on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, age 86. He was born at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo on March 19, 1933. He graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Michigan Medical school. He was married to Shirley Roof, who preceded him in death. Roger spent three years in the Navy in Norfolk, VA. He set up a clinic in Spencer, Indiana and in 1966 Roger and his family came to Greencastle and became the DePauw University Physician. He met his second wife, Martha Roof and enjoyed traveling to Europe with her and spending time during the summer months at their cottage in Climax, Michigan. In 2017, they moved to Richland. Roger is survived by his wife Martha Roof; sons, Ryan (Heidi) Roof, Brad (Lori) Roof and Gordon (Mele) Roof; grandsons, Christopher (Stephanie) and Nick Roof, David and Michael Roof; brother, Richard Roof; step-daughter, Lisa (T.J.) Maulbetsch and step-grandson, Kyle Uerkwitz and step-granddaughter, Lindsey Mungons and step-grandsons, Trenton and Palmer; step-daughter, Kristinea (Jon) Ewald and step-granddaughters, Logan Kepler, Sidnee Ewald and step-grandson, Joseph Ewald. Friends may visit with the family from 12 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 205 E Maple St, Climax, MI 49034. Following the visitation a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., officiated by Pastor Greg Carlson. Interment will follow in Roof Cemetery immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan in memory of Roger Roof.
