Roger Glas, age 55, of Portage, MI A beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, Roger passed away from complications after emergency surgery on July 31, 2017. He was born on August 8, 1961 in Kalamazoo, son of Joe and Martha (Korendyk) Glas. Roger graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School in 1980 and went on to Denver Automotive and Diesel School, where he graduated in 1983. He worked for various mechanic shops before going back to school for an engineering degree at Western Michigan University, which he completed in 1995. Roger worked various jobs around Kalamazoo, including landlord for rental properties, before settling in to be a caregiver for his father in 2011. Roger had a gentle heart and got fulfillment from helping others. His favorite jobs were the ones where he helped people, and he liked fixing broken stuff for people (he could fix anything). He will be missed. Surviving are his father Joe Glas; brothers and sisters: Don (Miriam) Glas, Carl (Jan) Glas, Charlie (Deb) Glas, Marietta (Randy) VanderMay and Ed (Cathy) Glas; and 16 nephews and nieces. Preceding him in death was his mother: Martha Glas in 2010. A service to celebrate Roger's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 7, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, where friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Pastor Greg Timmer of Grace Christian Reformed Church will officiate. Private family interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or a charity of one's choice. Roger's family would like to thank the staff at Bronson Hospital for the care and support they provided both Roger and his family during this difficult time.
