Robert W. “Robbie” Granger, age 20, took his own life unexpectedly on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Robert was born in Racine on July 18, 1996, son of Alec and Kimberly (nee: Leavenworth) Granger.

Always excelling academically, Robbie was the valedictorian of The Prairie School “Class of 2014” and a National Merit Scholar. While at Prairie, Robbie enjoyed running cross country, playing tennis and soccer and serving as Student Government President. He enjoyed cycling with his father and brother through many long charity rides. At his death, he was in his junior year at UW-Madison majoring in Industrial Engineering and Economics. A generous and giving individual, Robbie was the President of the campus chapter of Enactus, a global entrepreneurial humanitarian organization which was leading a project to start up a library in Guatemala. A bright, successful, and caring individual, Robbie will be remembered for his many acts of kindness, his independence, passion and his ability to connect with others.

Robbie will be dearly missed by his parents, Kimberly Granger (Tony Payne), Alec Granger (Barbara Rowicki); his brother, Ricky, all from Racine; grandparents, Ann (Bruce) Potthoff of Green Valley, AZ, Bill Leavenworth of Spirit Lake, ID, Dick and Diana Granger of Washburn, WI; aunts and uncles, Christie Brodtman and her children, Alexander, Emily and William, Amy (Todd) Thompson and their daughters, Amelia and Elizabeth, Becky (Rob Abramovitch) Bean and their son Frederick, Rich (Kara) Granger and their daughter, Kathryn; great uncle and aunt, Robert (Anne) Ladd; many other relatives and friends.

The family would very much like to thank Robbie’s roommates, his best friend David Bangs, their families, the Prairie community, UW Madison faculty and staff, our coworkers, and all the other friends who are providing their compassionate support during this difficult time.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Richard’s Catholic Church, 1503 Grand Ave, on Saturday February 11, 2017, 12:00 p.m., with Rev. Allen J. Bratkowski officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Robbie to the UW-Madison Suicide Prevention Fund https://secure.supportuw.org/give/ Enter Fund Name “Suicide Prevention Fund 112907148” and follow the instructions.
