Robert "Bob" Bruce Tolin, age 53, of Ann Arbor, MI passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 2, 2017, in Ann Arbor. He was born in Niles, Michigan, but was raised in Kalamazoo. He graduated from Loy Norrix High School in 1982, and attended Western Michigan University as an art major. Robert was a talented artist and writer. He had recently celebrated sixteen years of sobriety, and was active in helping others in their recovery. He served as a sponsor and wrote two books about Alcoholics Anonymous, which are shared in many support groups. He also wrote and illustrated several other books, including a book of poetry, under the pen name Pearl Perry. Robert is survived by his mother, Jean Tolin; siblings Steve Tolin, Suzanne (Ray) Reed, William Tolin, Sarah Tolin, Rachel Tolin, and Joshua (Regina) Tolin; nieces and nephews Jamon Tolin, Jala Tolin, Jaden Tolin, Malike Tolin, MaKenzie Tolin, Macey Tolin, and Dakota Reed; aunts Ann Perry, Kay Perry, and Sue (Jim) Nelmes; and many foster siblings. A memorial service celebrating Robert's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017, at Portage United Church of Christ, 2731 West Milham Avenue, Portage, MI 49024.
