Robert Kirkendall

Robert A. Kirkendall, age 83, of Portage, MI passed away Tuesday morning, January 9, 2018 at his home. Bob was born October 23, 1934 in Peru, IL the son of the late Keith and Evelyn (Johnson) Kirkendall. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army and was employed as an engineer with National Waterlift until his retirement. After retirement he continued as a quality source inspector until his death. He was a family man and enjoyed all the time spent with them during various gatherings and events. On August 10, 1957 he was united in marriage to his loving wife of 60 years, Hazel (Conrad), who survives. Also surviving are his children, Nancy (Scott) Daniels, Robert J. (Chonie) Kirkendall, Tim (Vickie) Kirkendall, Bruce (Renee') Kirkendall, Todd (Linda) Kirkendall; 13 grandchildren, Robert R., Jamie, Patrick, Meghan, Kristen, Kate, Mitchel, Kaitlyn, Samantha, Jacob, Laura, Joseph, and James; 16 great-grandchildren, Faith, Madison, Bradley, Emma, Lexie, Cadence, Tucker, Roy, Callie, Hunter, Morgan, Sawyer, Charlie, Leroy, Logan, Lila; sisters and brother, Willa Staufer, Lynn (Ed) Whitehead, Sue (Ron) Commisaris, Jerry Kirkendall; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by sisters and brother, Sherry, Janice, and Dick. Friends may meet the family from 1-3:00pm Sunday, January 14 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street where a memorial service will follow at 3:00pm. Private interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Somerset Beach Campground Scholarship Fund.
