Mr. Carter passed away suddenly Wednesday evening, September 27, 2006 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born May 9, 1947 in Hope, Arkansas, the son of the late James A. and Ida Mae (Brewer) Carter. Robert worked for James River Paper Co. for many years until his retirement. On June 18, 1965, he was united in marriage to Janet Echols in Kalamazoo, who survives. Also surviving are his 4 daughters, Tayna Pratt, Carolyn (James) Wilson, Ida Carter, and Rolanda Carter; 1 son, Cornondre Carter; 8 grandchildren; 1 sister, Sylvia Carter; 3 brothers, Frank, Robert L. "Tom", and Jerry Carter; step-mother, Beatrice Carter; 3 brothers-in-law, Michael Echols, Kelvine Echols, and Alanzo (Wanda) Hurt; 1 sister-in-law, Teresa Echols; and mother-in-law, Annie P. Echols. Preceding him in death are his parents; and 2 brothers, Richard and Burnette Carter. Funeral services for Robert will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ, 1904 N. Church Street, with Rev. Rudolph Thomas, officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
